FAQ'S - INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

How Does Online Counselling Work?

We use Microsoft Teams for online video sessions. If you prefer an alternate communication platform, please let us know.

Once an appointment is booked using the Microsoft Bookings page, you will receive a calendar invite containing the Microsoft Teams meeting link from email address LisaTurner@allthingsbutterfly.onmicrosft.com

Important: You must have an active email address to make a booking and receive appointment details.

On the Day of Your Appointment:

  1. Open the email or calendar invite
  2. Click the Microsoft Teams meeting link
  3. Follow any prompts to access Microsoft Teams
  4. Wait to be admitted into the online video session

For First-Time Users of Microsoft Teams:

  • If you don’t already have the app, we recommend allowing at least 15 minutes before your session to download it.
  • There is no requirement to sign up for an account—you can join as a Guest.
  • If joining as a Guest, you will be prompted to enter your name, which helps identify you in the meeting lobby.

Privacy Notice:

To ensure the integrity of your therapeutic experience:

  • Choose a comfortable, private space for your session.
  • Sessions must not be attended while driving.

How Do I Book an Appointment?

New Clients

If you are a new client, we offer an initial free 30 minute discovery session. This allows us to meet and discuss briefly your reasons for engaging me for counselling, as well as to go over any questions you may have.

My goal is for you to leave this initial meeting with clarity on our support offering and its suitability to you, enabling you to make an informed choice on your next steps.

Please use the Make a Booking link and select 'free 30 minute 'Individual discovery session'.

Select a day and time available that is suitable to you.

A meeting invitation will be sent to your registered email address.

Note: when setting up an appointment using Microsoft Bookings, you can book an appointment as guest and use your email address - Microsoft will require you to confirm your email address by sending a code for verification. If you are already logged into your own Microsoft account, the system will recognise that email address.

Your first session is scheduled for 60 minutes and includes:

  • Reviewing the Counselling Contract and Privacy & Confidentiality Agreement
  • A safe and confidential space to discuss thoughts, feelings, and behaviours
  • Guidance from a registered counsellor to explore and understand your experiences and challenges

During the initial and ongoing sessions, your counsellor may ask questions about your life, goals, and concerns to help address the reasons that brought you to counselling.

Counselling is a collaborative process—you are encouraged to ask questions and express any concerns. The goal is to help you feel better and make positive changes in your life.

  • If another party or agency has requested your information and you have provided written consent

How Is Data Managed & Kept Secure?

  • Brief session notes are taken to track progress and stored digitally via Microsoft Office 365 Business software
  • All data is password protected and secured using Kaspersky system security
  • To comply with the ACA Code of Ethics and Practice, a client’s identity is stored separately from session notes

Clients are encouraged to discuss any concerns about data security with their counsellor.
